CANADIAN FIREPLACE MANUFACTURER RECEIVES ZERO CLEARANCE CERTIFICATION

Kamloops, BC – Firecast Fireplaces have achieved UL and ULC certifications for zero clearance of its full repair fireplace system; an innovative product for heritage home fireplace restoration safeguarding authenticity, safety, efficiency and heat.  Now owners of heritage era home fireplaces have more choice.

The benefits of the Firecast system are threefold.  First, the Firecast insert can replace historical fireplace fireboxes without compromising traditional aesthetics while ensuring the highest safety standards.  Firecast’s zero clearance accommodates the traditional wood framing against firebox and chimney found in the construction of most heritage homes.   Until recently, the only remedy was to install a gas unit or steel airtight wood burning insert into an old fireplace and chimney.  Second, the Firecast system’s zero clearance means that fireplaces and chimneys are safe and code compliant.  The certification of Firecast’s high-temperature, refractory fireplace insert means that an open wood burning fireplace can be retrofit into an existing masonry fireplace and chimney which make it not only safe but also protects the historical aesthetics of the homes’ fireplace.  And third, Firecast fireplaces deliver cost-effective, clean burning heat.

Firecast Fireplaces’ fire box and optional stainless-steel smoke chamber is installed into the existing brick firebox and smoke chamber, coupled with a liner system tested to zero clearance.  Max Kirton, Firecast Fireplaces president says, “Upon the completion of installation the owner is left with a brand-new fireplace insert maintaining the traditional appearance, ambiance and function of a wood burning fireplace and all the merits of safety and efficiency of the Firecast system”.

Firecast Fireplaces, manufactured in Vancouver, BC since 1981, are made of high-temperature, refractory materials.  The Firecast system provides the most effective insert to maintain the traditional integrity, look and character of a home’s fireplace while providing a cost-effective, clean burning, safe heat source.   The Firecast system increases the efficiency and enjoyment of conventional wood burning fireplaces with more heat, less fuel, and less smoke.

Transforming an old brick firebox with a Firecast for a fraction of the cost of new masonry... and in only a few hours.  And without the mess.

Firecast Backbrick

Firecast Backbrick

This is the back brick of the Masonry System being installed into a dated masonry chimney. The fire brick, firebox and smoke chamber were removed as was the facing to accommodate the Firecast System.  Installing the Masonry System allowed for the installation of an 8" Stainless flue to address the cracked flue liners.

Lift the back brick into the shroud and pull forward to the inner metal edge of the shroud.  Tape the gap between the metal edge and the edge of the back brick.  The tape is removed after the Insulcast has been installed.

Photo shows the steel damper that is used with the Firecast.  The actual exit size is only 40 square inches.  This reduced damper size allows for the installation of an 8" Round Stainless Flue.  With regards to restoration situations, the ability to install a Class A Flue or a Rigid/flex flue liner to the Firecast is a real advantage.  With upper chimney damage, the damaged or non code complying masonry chimney can be simply removed and an updated Class A Stainless can be installed.

Stainless 8" Flex or rigid stainless make for an easy update to damaged or non code complying chimney.  The use of a top mounted damper is recommended in this installation with a flue height exceeding 30 feet.  The round flue can be reduced to 7" round.

Pipe

This cavity can be filled, but the top 6" must be filled with a Cerwood gasket to allow for expansion.

This area can also be filled as an option with a mix of Perlite and Portland Cement.  This would act as an insulator and as well stabilze the flue.   A Pipe cap is installed at the top of the masonry with a Pipe Collar.
